DARKNESS

Darkness
slides and slips
like glinting slime upon a mottled marble slab
cascading along the eaves
of an inked through canvas
crashing into an infinite
number of pieces
each
crystallizing
into a haze of gauzy silk
luxurious yet softly
and swiftly stifling.

prickly pins and needles
stinging until numb
i drowsily helpless
to resist its
gloopy, gloppy, oozy
pit of tar

muddled mists lazily smoke
rustling whispers surround
brushing by, bristling, listening.

startling neon colours
burst and collide
spark and fade
across the starry-less pitch-black night
pulsating in the distance
dimmer still no nearer
further still no end

a panther prowls
its spots unseen.

lit/unlit

Darling, i see you face
like a burst of brilliance in the dark
flashing too bright
like a light bulb
before going out

Darling, your beautiful smile
minutely persists
like a streak of white smoke in the dark
a short-lived
glow-hazy flicker
of memory

whatever will i do
when all that remains
is a littered unlit place
spent matchsticks scattered
in the cavernous
confines of my mind?

harmless

harmless aren’t i?
never a look away
never more than a few words to say
ever a smile thought not sad if certainly lost
ever a twinkle…moreso a reflection of every other spirit
surely i say too much
and not mean much
surely i say but one word
and mean simply everything with only my unmet glance
when you look upon me
do i not seem not here?
intangled within my own yearning-keening-dreamings and all other ings
too dark and painful to delve and keep
how very little harm they will do so at first…

i miss the light

i see too much…

too sharply, strongly

too vividly, viciously

i miss the light…

not chemical, not electrical

not that cruel piercing imperfection revealing lit object.

why not some dimness…?

some  smoothness…

some dark to wrap around softly but not at all lessen…

some thing hidden…

some thing saved…

some thing for one to know and one to find out…

let the light be created,

let it slowly fade the light-maker

let it lick, slide, drip, drop, fall, fly and burn…

let it leave a trace as all living things do…

let it spark, grow, flame, flicker, falter…

let it live and as all, let it leave.
